Bottom line: For a short 1-3 day trip, a Korean carrier's prepaid eSIM is the simplest option. For a 5-day-or-longer stay, or when sharing one connection across several devices, renting a pocket Wi-Fi router at KT's Incheon Airport roaming center works out cheaper per day. A physical SIM looks cheap on paper, but unlike an eSIM it must be returned or kept track of, so weigh the hassle of returning a device, not just the price tag.

If you didn't know: KT's pocket Wi-Fi costs 4,400 won a day (VAT included) — 2,200 won less than the 6,600 won all-day "unlimited" eSIM plan — but returning it even one day late adds a 3,300 won penalty per extra day. Separately, KT's "Korea Tour Pack" only throws in a free T-money transit card for prepaid roaming purchases of 5 days or more; buying only a 1-3 day plan without knowing this means missing the free card plus a 1,500 won discount on the AREX airport railway and a 2,000 won discount on the airport limousine bus.

At a glance: - KT prepaid eSIM/SIM (linked to Korea Tour Pack): 1-day unlimited plan (3GB at full speed, then 5Mbps) 6,600 won; 5-day plan 27,500 won; buying 5 days or more adds a free T-money card plus AREX (1,500 won off) and limousine bus (2,000 won off) discounts (inquiries: 02-2190-0901). - KT Welcome Prepaid (voice-enabled, for longer stays): 1GB 35,000 won; 3GB 45,000 won; 5GB/30 days 55,000 won (unlimited at 1-5Mbps after the cap). - KT Pocket Wi-Fi (inbound roaming router): 4,400 won/day; 55,000 won/month (3,300 won per extra day), picked up and returned at the KT roaming center at Incheon Airport. - SKT T Roaming Center: Terminal 1, 3F H Counter (6:00-22:00) and 3F Gate 27 (7:00-21:00); Terminal 2, 3F between Counters G and F (6:00-22:00) and in front of Gate 251 (7:00-21:00); returns at the SKT T Roaming Center in Terminal 2's east arrival hall (24 hours); SKT does not publish on-site prices online, so call the roaming customer center (02-6343-9000) to confirm.

These figures come from KT's official Globalshop prepaid-SIM price pages (globalshop.kt.com), the Korea Tour Pack details reported by the Korea JoongAng Daily on July 22, 2024, and the Incheon Airport T Roaming Center locations and hours published on SK Telecom's T World site. SKT and LG U+, however, do not post walk-up Incheon Airport prices as numbers on their official sites, so confirming either carrier's rate still requires asking at the roaming counter or calling customer service.

Japanese travelers often rely on LINE from the moment they land — for sharing itineraries, navigating, and payment verification — so losing data right after arrival is especially disruptive; reserving an eSIM online before the flight and activating it by QR code the moment you land is the safer route. Chinese travelers frequently need live data to log into WeChat and verify WeChat Pay, so it is worth checking in advance that switching to a new Korean SIM number won't block an SMS verification code needed to log back in.
