Incheon Airport Late-Night Arrival 2026: How Much Does the Taxi Surcharge Really Add?

Bottom line: If you land at Incheon Airport late at night (10 p.m. to 4 a.m.) and take a taxi into Seoul, expect up to 60% on top of the metered fare. If a limousine bus or the airport railway (AREX) is still running, take that instead — it's far cheaper. If you must take a taxi, a deluxe or large taxi caps the surcharge lower than a regular one.
If you didn't know: Seoul's official transport data shows regular taxis add a 20% surcharge from 10-11 p.m. and 2-4 a.m., and 40% from 11 p.m. to 2 a.m. On top of that, trips starting outside Seoul's city limits — which includes Incheon Airport — carry an extra 20% out-of-zone surcharge, and when the two overlap, the total can reach 60%. Deluxe taxis and large sedans charge a flat 20% late-night surcharge across the whole 10 p.m.-4 a.m. window, and even combined with the 20% out-of-zone charge, they top out at 40% — which means in the 11 p.m.-2 a.m. window, a deluxe taxi can actually end up cheaper than a regular one.
At a glance: Regular taxi night surcharge 20-40% (20% at 22-23h and 02-04h, 40% at 23-02h) + 20% out-of-zone surcharge = up to 60% combined. Deluxe/large taxi night surcharge flat 20% (all of 22:00-04:00) + 20% out-of-zone = up to 40% combined. Applies 22:00-04:00. Source: Seoul Metropolitan Government Transport Newsroom.
If you land at dawn after the last limousine bus and the last AREX train have already stopped, your only options are a night bus (N-bus) or a taxi — and fare-wise, a taxi in this window is the most expensive way into the city. The same ride can feel very different in price depending on whether you take it in daylight or inside the 11 p.m.-2 a.m. overlap window. This surcharge structure applies the same way regardless of your nationality, so whether you're arriving from Japan, China, the US or anywhere else, it's worth budgeting for that extra 60% before you convert your currency. The surcharge is built into the meter automatically, so there's no need to haggle with the driver — if the final fare looks much higher than the base rate on the receipt, this is almost certainly why.
There are three ways to cut the surcharge. First, clearing the airport before 11 p.m. drops you into the lower 20% band. Second, booking a deluxe taxi (often a 'premium' option in ride-hailing apps) keeps the surcharge at a flat 20% any time of night, which beats a regular taxi during the 11 p.m.-2 a.m. peak. Third, you can simply wait inside the airport — both Incheon terminals keep transit areas and amenities open 24 hours, so waiting a few hours for the first morning bus or train is a safe option.
