Bottom line: Gwangmyeong Cave, a disused gold mine turned theme park you can reach by subway alone from Seoul, is open Tuesday through Sunday only. It's closed every Monday, so check the day before you go.

If you didn't know: Show up on a Monday without checking and you'll burn 1.5–2 hours of subway-and-bus transfers round trip for nothing — you won't set foot inside. Even on an open day, ticket sales stop at 17:00, so arriving after that also means no entry.

Address 142 Gahak-ro 85beon-gil, Gwangmyeong-si, Gyeonggi-do · open Tue–Sun 09:00–18:00 (closed Mondays) · last ticket sale 17:00 · admission 10,000 won for non-residents, 5,000 won for Gwangmyeong residents (teen/child/senior rates weren't listed on the official page checked) · inquiries 070-4277-8902 · Subway Line 7 Cheolsan Station Exit 2, transfer to a bus, or Subway Line 1 to KTX Gwangmyeong Station Exit 8 for Bus 77.

How we checked this

The Gwangmyeong Cave page on the city's official site (gm.go.kr) lists hours as 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM, last admission 5:00 PM, closed Mondays, open Tuesday through Sunday. The same site's fee notice gives adult admission as 10,000 won for people from outside Gwangmyeong and 5,000 won for Gwangmyeong residents — teen, child, and senior rates weren't on the official page accessed. There are two route options: from Subway Line 7 Cheolsan Station Exit 2, take a bus toward Hayang-dong or Soha-dong from the stop across from the 2001 Outlet, or ride Bus 17 to its last stop at the Cave's parking lot; or take Subway Line 1 to KTX Gwangmyeong Station, exit 8, and take Bus 77. From Sadang Station in Seoul, Bus 8507 from exit 4 reaches KTX Gwangmyeong Station for the same transfer. Because the cave closes at 18:00, there's no real risk of missing a late-night subway home — though this check could not pin down Cheolsan Station's exact last Line 7 departure time. This was confirmed on the gm.go.kr Gwangmyeong Cave visitor-info, admission-fee, and directions pages on 2026-11-02.
