Light Falls Over Suwon Hwaseong's Walls — Hwaseomun Media Art Through Oct. 6
If you're looking for a free nighttime spectacle near Seoul, Hwaseomun Gate — the western gate of Suwon Hwaseong Fortress, a UNESCO World Heritage wall completed in 1796 under King Jeongjo of the Joseon dynasty — has an answer. Through October 6, a nightly media-art show projects light and imagery across the entire fortress wall.

The fortress wall itself becomes a giant screen for the show. As darkness falls, images of Joseon-era military processions and traditional patterns rise across the stone ramparts while beams of purple and blue light slice through the night sky. In Jangan Park's plaza, interactive lighting reacts to visitors' movement alongside a bubble-shaped light show, and in front of Janganmun Gate an immersive 360-degree video wraps around the audience. Organizers describe the show as depicting "the night of Suwon Hwaseong, welcoming guests with new light and enjoying it together."
You can reach the site on foot or by bus from Suwon Station or the Suwon Hwaseong tourist zone. Good spots in front of Hwaseomun fill up 20-30 minutes before each showtime, so arrive a little early if you want a clear view.
