Flying Asiana at Incheon? Head to Terminal 2, Not Terminal 1

New Zealand traveler Sarah Jones stood baffled in front of the check-in counters on the third floor of Incheon International Airport's Terminal 1, unable to find an Asiana Airlines desk. A travel blog she had read months earlier said Asiana flew out of Terminal 1, but the airline moved its departures to Terminal 2 on January 14, 2026. Having arrived 90 minutes before her flight, she lost nearly 30 minutes, including the wait, riding the free shuttle bus back to Terminal 2, and reached the counter just before check-in closed.
The free shuttle bus connecting Incheon Airport's two terminals runs daily from 5 a.m. to 11 p.m., departing roughly every 10 minutes. The ride takes about 15 minutes from Terminal 1 to Terminal 2, and about 18 minutes the other way. The AREX airport railway shuttle train covers the same distance in 6 minutes for a one-way fare of 1,050 won. Questions can be directed to the Incheon Airport customer center at 1577-2600, open daily from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m.
Incheon Airport's split into two terminals is the single biggest source of confusion for first-time foreign visitors. Terminal 1 is used by low-cost domestic carriers such as Jeju Air, T'way Air, Eastar Jet and Air Premia, along with many foreign airlines. Terminal 2 is used by Korean Air, Jin Air, Air Seoul, Air Busan and Delta Air Lines, and since January 2026 Asiana Airlines has flown from there as well. The two terminals sit about 15 kilometers apart in a straight line, so despite sharing one airport name, they are entirely separate buildings.
Travelers who show up at the wrong terminal have three ways back. The free shuttle bus costs nothing, but with the wait for the next departure it can add up to 25 to 28 minutes. The airport railway is the fastest option at 6 minutes, though it means walking to the platform and buying a ticket. Those short on time or carrying heavy luggage can take a taxi, which gets there in about 13 minutes but, by most travelers' accounts, adds roughly 10,000 to 20,000 won on top of whatever they already paid to reach the airport.
Anyone visiting Korea for the first time should double-check the departure terminal on their ticket or the airline's website before heading to the airport. Because Asiana's move is less than a year old, older travel guides or advice from friends often still point to Terminal 1. To avoid a last-minute scramble at check-in, arrive at the airport at least two to three hours early, and if you realize you are at the wrong terminal, head straight for the third-floor shuttle bus stop or the airport railway signs, the quickest way to fix the mistake.
