Incheon Airport Automated Immigration 2026: 42 Eligible Countries, 2-Minute Clearance vs. Up to 92-Minute Lines

When the regular immigration lines at Incheon Airport stretch long, the automated gates right next to them often sit nearly empty. Since March 16 this year, the number of countries eligible to use these self-service gates has grown to 42, yet plenty of travelers still don't know it and end up waiting in the long line anyway.
At a glance: Automated immigration eligibility expanded to 42 countries/regions on March 16, 2026 (adding the EU's 19 members, four non-EU Schengen states, Canada and others to the existing 18) · Average wait at regular counters is 24 to 35 minutes, up to 92 minutes during peak season, versus about 2 minutes at automated gates · Registration centers at Terminal 1, 3rd floor (near counter H) and Terminal 2, 2nd floor, open daily 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. · Inquiries: Terminal 1 at 032-740-7400, Terminal 2 at 032-740-7367, general information at 1577-2600.
Anyone age 17 or older from one of the 42 eligible countries who holds a foreigner registration card can use the gates immediately, with no pre-registration needed. Short-term tourists, however, cannot use automated immigration on arrival — only on departure, and again without needing to register in advance. In other words, even nationals of the 42 eligible countries still have to go through a regular counter when entering, but can clear departure in about two minutes through the automated gate. This expansion follows an earlier first phase on December 1, 2025, which grew eligibility from 4 countries to 18.
If you're unsure whether your nationality qualifies, terminal information desks or the general hotline (1577-2600) can confirm it on the spot. Since peak-season waits at regular counters can run past an hour and a half, checking in advance whether your country is among the 42 can at least cut the wait on your way home.
