Bottom line: Geumdang-do belongs administratively to Wando County, but there's no ferry to the island from Wando's own port. Boats leave from Udu or Nokdong port in Goheung, or Noryeok port in Jangheung. A day trip from Seoul is essentially impossible — plan on an overnight stay in Goheung or Wando.

If you didn't know: Go by the county name alone and head to Wando port, and you'll find no ferry at all — wasting at least an hour before backtracking overland to Goheung. The last intercity bus from Seoul to Nokdong (Goheung) leaves relatively early in the evening (17:30 per Asamaru's schedule aggregator), so miss it and there's no way back to Seoul that day.

At a glance

Seoul Express Bus Terminal (Central City) ↔ Nokdong Public Bus Terminal, 4 runs a day, premium one-way fare 41,100 won, about 4 hours 43 minutes (per Asamaru, as of July 2026 — reconfirm on kobus.co.kr before boarding) · Udu Port (Goheung) → Ulpo Port (Geumdang-do) ferry, 5 runs a day (09:00/11:20/13:50/16:30), about 15 minutes · Nokdong New Port (Goheung) → Ulpo Port, 1 run a day (departs 05:50, returns around 17:05–17:50) · Noryeok Port (Jangheung) → Gahak Port (Geumdang-do), 6 runs a day (06:30–18:00) · Ferry fares vary by operator and season and aren't posted online — call the operator (061-843-2300) directly before boarding.

Once the boat passes Geogeum-do and reaches Udu port, it quickly leaves the mainland behind for cliffs carved sheer out of the sea. The roughly one-kilometer coastal walk from Sepo village pier to Gama Rock runs past wave-cut rock formations that give Gyoamcheongpung its name, and crossing the Jangmunjae ridge to Sepo Observatory takes about an hour each way. The 'Eight Scenic Views of Geumdang,' including Byeongpung Rock, Buchae Rock and the Hangnyeong sunset, are best seen up close on a sightseeing boat tour. It's reachable by public transport alone, but with only one to six ferry runs a day, you'll need to time things tightly without a rental car.
