Bottom line: A day trip to Hahoe Folk Village from Seoul is comfortably doable. The fastest route is the KTX-Eum from Cheongnyangni Station — take an early train and you reach Andong around 7:30 a.m., leaving the whole day to explore before catching the last train back to Seoul at 9:52 p.m.

If you didn't know: If you plan around the express bus timetable alone, the last bus from Andong to Seoul leaves at 8:10 p.m. — 1 hour 42 minutes earlier than the last KTX. Miss that window without knowing the train option exists, and you'll likely pay for an extra night in an Andong motel (50,000–60,000 won). Fares differ too: KTX-Eum standard class from Cheongnyangni runs 27,700 won, while the premium express bus from Seoul Express Bus Terminal is 24,400 won — 3,300 won cheaper, but the bus takes about 2 hours 44 minutes versus the train's 1 hour 52 minutes, a 52-minute difference.

The village's name, Hahoe (河回), literally means the river turns around — the Nakdong River loops around the village in a shape resembling the letter S. Walk in and you'll find tile-roofed and thatched houses of the Pungsan Ryu clan standing side by side along low earthen-walled lanes that have held the same layout for nearly 600 years. Famous for its Hahoe masks, the village was inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage site in 2010 together with Yangdong Village in Gyeongju, under the listing 'Historic Villages of Korea.' Walking the full loop takes about two hours, and since shade is scarce, a hat and water are worth bringing. Add a climb up Buyongdae cliff across the river for a view of the whole village, and the visit easily fills half a day. City buses do connect Andong Station or the bus terminal to the village, but as of October 2026 no official source confirms their exact departure intervals. Because service appears infrequent, taking a taxi straight to the village is the safer bet for a tight day-trip schedule.
