The Han River Becomes a K-Pop Landmark: Yeouido and Banpo Emerge as Fan Pilgrimage Spots

Seoul's Han River is emerging as a new pilgrimage course for K-pop fans. According to Hankook Ilbo, a free collaboration event celebrating BIGBANG's 20th debut anniversary was held on August 19 at the Mulbit Stage in Yeouido Hangang Park. The program featured performances on a giant floating LED screen, a drone show and fireworks, while the Moonlight Rainbow Fountain at Banpo Hangang Park ran a fountain show set to BIGBANG's music.

This is not the city's first move to turn the Han River into a K-pop landmark. Last year, Banpo's Jamsu Bridge hosted SEVENTEEN's 10th anniversary event, and in March this year a fountain and lighting show was staged in connection with BTS's comeback. Park Jin-young, head of the Seoul Metropolitan Government's Future Hangang Headquarters, said the city aims to 'deliver a special experience by combining K-pop content with the Han River's waterfront spaces' (Hankook Ilbo). For visiting fans who want to walk in their favorite artists' footsteps even without a concert ticket, Yeouido Hangang Park and the Banpo Moonlight Rainbow Fountain are worth adding to the itinerary.
