Free K-Beauty Classes in Seoul, Even for Makeup Beginners

If you're a foreign traveler who always hesitates over which shade or product to pick the moment you walk into a cosmetics store, Seoul City's free Hallyu experience program is worth knowing about. The city runs "K-Beauty Classes" for foreign tourists in Seongsu-dong (Seongdong-gu) and around Hongdae (Mapo-gu), continuing through November this year.

Participation is free, open to any inbound foreign visitor regardless of nationality. Schedules and sign-up details are posted on Seoul's official Hallyu content page (korean.visitseoul.net/hallyu). According to the city, the Seongsu-dong class covers makeup techniques used in K-dramas and idol styling, while the Hongdae class combines beauty tips with a hands-on cosmetics-making experience.

Walking through the alleys between Seongsu's converted brick warehouses and stepping into the class venue, the first thing that catches your eye is a display shelf arranged in soft pastel tones (sight). Dab a skincare product on the back of your hand and you can feel how lightly it absorbs (touch), while the space carries the faint, distinctive scent of cosmetics (smell).
