Bottom line: Gyeongju works as a day trip from Seoul by KTX — leave Seoul Station early and you can see Cheomseongdae Observatory and Daereungwon Tomb Complex and still catch the last train back. Today only (November 7), there's a bonus: the Ministry of Unification is running a free event called "Peace Ondam" from 11:00 to 17:00 on the lawn beside Cheomseongdae, including a free Silla-costume experience for the first 200 people.

If you didn't know: this event runs today only. Six performance acts and the hands-on craft booths disappear after today. The Silla costume experience works by collecting all 7 sticker stamps around the event site and completing a satisfaction survey to earn a 1-hour costume voucher — once 200 vouchers are claimed, that's it (the voucher itself is usable through tomorrow, November 8, but today is your only chance to claim one). A typical hanbok rental experience elsewhere runs roughly 10,000-30,000 won — today that cost disappears.

At a glance

Peace Ondam, Saturday November 7, 2026, 11:00-17:00 · Location: lawn beside Cheomseongdae, 104-1 Hwangnam-dong, Gyeongju, North Gyeongsang Province · Free admission · Silla costume experience, first 200 people only (voucher usable Nov 7-8) · Parking: Cheonmachong roadside lot (103-2 Hwangnam-dong, 1-min walk) and Daereungwon public lot (495 Hwangnam-dong, 3-min walk) · KTX Seoul Station to Gyeongju Station, one-way 44,600 won, about 2 hours · Last train back, Gyeongju to Seoul, departs 22:38 (KTX 74, arrives Seoul 00:42) · Official page: pyeonghwaondam.oopy.io.

Several KTX trains run between Seoul Station and Gyeongju Station daily; as of November 7, 2026, the first train from Seoul departs 05:13 and the last train from Gyeongju departs 22:38, so an early start makes a comfortable day trip. From Gyeongju Station, reach the Cheomseongdae/Daereungwon area by city bus or taxi. Today's "Peace Ondam" is a Ministry of Unification cultural event for the second half of 2026, featuring six outdoor acts (samulnori percussion, vocal, acoustic, opera, magic theater, traditional Korean music) and craft booths — like the "Millennium Peace Village" — offering things like keyring and aroma perfume making. Because the Silla costume voucher requires collecting all 7 stamps around the grounds plus a survey, you can't just walk in and put it on immediately — arriving in the morning gives you more time for the stamp tour.

How we checked this

Opened the event's official page (pyeonghwaondam.oopy.io) directly on 2026-11-07 and confirmed the voucher window (Nov 7-8), the 200-person cap, and parking locations there; the organizer name (Ministry of Unification), venue address (104-1 Hwangnam-dong, beside Cheomseongdae, Gyeongju), and hours (11:00-17:00) were cross-checked against a specialist news outlet's report dated 2026-11-06, since the official page itself shows only a logo without the organizer's name in text. KTX fares and times were confirmed on a Korail schedule lookup screen on 2026-11-07.
