Foreign families wondering what to do during the Chuseok holiday might consider trying traditional Korean games in Jeonju. The National Jeonju Museum announced it will hold its "2026 Hangawi Folk Games Yard" from Thursday, September 24, through Sunday, September 27, in celebration of Chuseok. The museum will be closed on September 25, Chuseok Day itself, and the event runs daily from 10 a.m. to 5 p

.m. in the museum's outdoor courtyard and in front of the main building. Ongoing activities include yut (traditional stick-dice game), tuho (arrow-pitching), jegichagi (a Korean shuttlecock game), samulnori percussion performances, hands-on sessions with old everyday tools, a moon-rabbit photo zone, and wish-note hanging — filling the venue with the clack of yut sticks landing, the thud of arrows s

triking the tuho jar, and the clang of samulnori gongs and drums. Special programs are also scheduled by date: songpyeon (rice-cake) making, where visitors shape and steam their own rice cakes, on the 24th; a performance by percussion groups Arihyang and Salmaedi at 2:30 p.m. on the 26th; and orandae-making, a fried traditional snack made from flour dough, on the 27th. All programs are free. The h

ands-on sessions are limited to 20 people per round and require advance registration on the museum's website, while the folk games and performances are open to anyone without reservation. Since most of Korea's national museums also charge no admission for their permanent exhibitions, visitors might pair the outdoor event with a stop in the air-conditioned galleries to browse artifacts from the Jeo

nbuk region. For inquiries, contact the museum at 063-220-1014 or via its website, jeonju.museum.go.kr. Korea Tourism Times Editorial Desk
