Bottom line: You cannot just pack Adderall (amphetamine) and fly into Korea, even with a valid prescription. You need advance written permission from Korea's Ministry of Food and Drug Safety (MFDS) Narcotics Policy Division before you travel.

If you didn't know: Show up without the permit and customs confiscates the entire supply on the spot. There is no same-day approval — the legal processing time is 10 business days, so applying after you land is already too late.

At a glance

Apply to MFDS Narcotics Policy Division (email narcotics@korea.kr, fax +82-43-719-2800, phone 043-719-2813) · processing time 10 business days (file at least 10 days before arrival) · maximum allowed supply is 90 days, plus up to 5 extra days only for flight delays or similar unavoidable reasons · prescription medication must travel in carry-on baggage only · required documents: application forms 1 and 2, passport copy, flight reservation, doctor's note, and prescription (an export approval from your home country can replace the doctor's note and prescription).

How we checked this

Since October 23, 2009, under the enforcement rules of Korea's Narcotics Control Act, MFDS has required anyone entering Korea who needs to carry narcotic or psychotropic medication for personal treatment to get prior approval. Adderall's active ingredient, amphetamine, falls under this psychotropic category, so the same process applies. Carrying more than the approved amount, or mailing it in, is banned outright — packages are returned or destroyed if caught. Applications cannot be filed by a proxy, and anyone staying more than 90 days needs a new prescription from a doctor in Korea. Forms must be filled out in Korean or English, with a certified translation attached otherwise. This was checked on 2026-11-01 against MFDS's official "Self-Treatment Narcotics Bring-in Permit" procedure notice (mfds.go.kr) and its published application guideline.
