K-ETA Exemption Extended Through Year-End, Set to Return in January

Korea's Ministry of Justice and overseas missions announced on Dec. 30 that the temporary exemption from the Korea Electronic Travel Authorization (K-ETA) requirement will be extended by one year, through Dec. 31, 2026. Citizens of eligible countries can enter Korea visa-free for up to 90 days during this period without applying in advance.

The exemption is temporary: K-ETA is scheduled to become mandatory again starting Jan. 1, 2027. The exact fee and application process after reinstatement have not yet been officially confirmed.

For anyone planning a Korea trip this year, it's the last stretch to enter without extra paperwork or fees. Travelers eyeing a 2027 trip should watch for the reinstatement announcement to save time later.
